How Social Media Became an Unexpected Gift

How my view on managing social media accounts has evolved

More Than Just Posts

Beyond the technical aspects, managing a social media account can be about empowering each other, sharing joy, and creating future nostalgia

When I first found myself responsible for managing social media, I wanted nothing to do with it. It felt like a chore—just another task that pulled me away from the hands-on work I truly loved. Posting photos, writing captions, and engaging online seemed secondary to the real-life energy of a bustling bar or an event in full swing. But what I didn’t realize then was that these small, seemingly mundane tasks were quietly shaping something much bigger: a way to capture and share moments that would otherwise slip away. Looking back now, I see what a gift it truly was.

Connection

At first, social media felt transactional—post something, get likes, move on. But over time, I saw how it was so much more than that. A single post had the power to bring people in, to spark excitement, to create a sense of belonging. Whether it was a beautifully timed photo, a behind-the-scenes glimpse, or a heartfelt caption, each piece of content carried a story. Guests would come in because of something they saw online, and staff would feel a sense of pride seeing their work highlighted. Social media wasn’t just a tool for promotion—it was a bridge between moments and the people who cherished them.

Growth

A Skill I Never Expected to Value

What started as an obligation became a skillset I never expected to appreciate. I learned how to see moments through a different lens—how to frame a shot, how to tell a story in a few words, how to create something that resonated. I found joy in capturing the little details: the perfect pour of a cocktail, the glow of a candlelit event, the candid laughter of a guest. And in doing so, I grew—not just as someone managing social media, but as someone who could find meaning in unexpected places. The very thing I resisted became something that helped me see my work in a new light.
